The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel Camarthen

My first visit to The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Camarthen, Wales was part of Bakers Dolphin Reunion weekend. I was there to enjoy a 2 course lunch to celebrate the last leg of the trip. I was greeted with a very warm welcome by the hotel staff and it was great to finally introduce myself and to put faces to names.

The hotel was really easy to find, located in the centre of town. The car park was easily accessible with free parking and a large area for the coaches. The receptionist was very informative about the hotel facilities and the surrounding area of Camarthen.

The room was comfortable and spacious with excellent bathroom facilities. The free WIFI was easy to connect and all hotel facilities were accessible, including room service.

The entrance through to the lounge area had been recently refurbished and the patio doors looking out onto the new outdoor seating area looked very appealing. The lounge area was very modern, spacious and relaxing and to the side of the lounge area was the bar, which served coffee, tea, cakes and biscuits.

The Bakers Dolphin Reunion customers enjoyed a two course homemade meal in the large function restaurant called ‘Croeso’, which means ‘Welcome’ in Welsh. We received excellent service from the staff and the food was absolutely delicious!

We were also pleasantly surprised that the hotel was all geared up for the festive season and it was only mid-November, which made the stay even more special.

The town centre, Old Camarthen is literally opposite the hotel and the new town is just a short walk away. There are a variety of shops, from your usual high street to some unusual independent shops, cafes and restaurants.

The staff were friendly and very attentive throughout the visit. I had a cosy overnight stay and the breakfast the next day was very well presented with a great selection of both hot and cold breakfast options. I thought all staff were very well trained for hospitality too, which was great to see. Check out was very easy and I was soon on my way home.

As I waved the Bakers Dolphin Reunion customers goodbye from outside reception, one coach after the other, I would be proud to recommend this hotel to future customers. The whole experience was very welcoming and I would highly recommend it.

Footnote: Since my visit to The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel, we were sad to hear of the passing of Alison Jones, whom we have worked alongside for decades. We will miss her cheery personality and send our condolences to the team at The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel.
