Set on a natural stage just outside of Bishop Auckland, Kynren is a unique and amazing show. It is an immersive live performance that takes the audience on a journey through 2,000 years of British history, featuring a cast of hundreds of volunteers including live animals, and jaw-dropping special effects. Ranking as 5 star on Trip Advisor - does it live up to the hype?
Sarah, our Sales and Marketing Executive, went along in September to the last show of 2023 to find out.
‘’Quite simply, photos just don't do it justice,’’ commented Sarah. ‘It’s a spectacular performance that offers something for all ages. The sheer scale of the production is awesome. No snapshot or video clip can convey the enjoyment and emotion that Kynren evokes.’’
Kynren is located not far from our Darlington office base and Sarah booked the visit very last minute when her dad mentioned his interest. It had been on her bucket list for a while so she didn’t take much persuading to take him along!
‘’Whilst my dad is eligible for disabled access parking, that was already fully booked, so we opted for the next nearest car park and the shuttle bus. There was quite a bit of queuing involved for the shuttle, so arriving on a pre-booked coach trip would definitely be an advantage. The coach drop-off is as close to the entrance as you can get!’’
‘’There is still quite a bit of walking involved and steps up to the seating, but we took it at a steady pace and my dad coped admirably. However, there are areas for wheelchair access if needed as well as plenty of volunteer staff on hand to help ensure that everyone can enjoy the show comfortably.’’
As the sun set and the show began, Sarah found herself swept away by the incredible storytelling, dazzling visuals, and powerful displays. From the Roman era to World War II, the show takes you on a journey through time, guided by a captivating narrative, special effects, and live action.
‘’The incredible cast, costumes and sheer size of the production are amazing and you’ll be captivated from every angle with so much going on across the huge stage. The jousting was incredible and I loved the animal stars of the show. Watch out for the prima donna goose leading the pack! There are some very moving and emotional parts too. I’d swing from grinning from ear to ear to wiping away tears.’’
‘’A truly memorable show that I’d happily revisit. To fully appreciate Kynren, you really must witness it in person. The magic of history and storytelling comes alive beneath the open night sky and finishes with a spectacular firework finale.‘’
Coach tours offer an easy way to visit Kynren. With a convenient drop off point and accessible seating options available on request, everyone can enjoy this unforgettable spectacle. Watch out for 2025 dates on the Ashley and Newey website coming soon.
